Taking apart a CRT Television?

I’m planning to take apart a 6-or-so year old CRT television, only to access the infra-red LED light receiver. I know that doing certain things with the tube/screen can cause a very strong shock, but if I just go in for this part, should anything bad possibly happen?
Details would be great.

If the TV has been off for a couple of days you have nothing to fear from dangerous voltages as they all bleed away after a couple hours. People who tell you about killing yourself from the capacitors or EHT voltages have never been in the TV repair business.
How ever the CRT must be handled with caution as a strong blow to the face or bowl part will result in a severe implosion with chunks of 2 inch thick glass flying several meters with considerable velocity . To de-vacuum the CRT you should take pliers and pinch off the nipple on the end of the tube where the little circuit board is plugged in . Or if you are nervous you can stand to one side and give the glass neck a sharp rap with something heavy like a hammer !!!! That way there is just a loud hiss as the air rushes in to the tube !!
Dismantling scrap TVs was always a job for the apprentices and I do not ever re call seeing one fried or blown up or deceased in any other way during 40 + years !!!!!.
